Street Closures and Alternative Parking Locations Sept. 3 - Sept. 7
Due to the Great Falls Festival, the parking lot at Overlook Park (72 McBride Ave. Extension) will be closed as well as the following streets: McBride Avenue Extension to the Mill Street/Van Houten intersection, Wayne Ave./Wayne Ave. Bridge, and Spruce Street to the Market Street intersection. Additional parking at the Paterson Museum and lot across the street from the museum.
(PEPC) Planning, Environment & Public Comment
Open for comment - The goal of this project is to demolish four extraneous structures at the Wright (Guinn) Farm and the Bishop Farm. The GAOA was implemented to reduce as many excess resources as possible to ensure limited funding can be directed to the most significant resources that are fundamental to the Park's mission. Significant resources include buildings in Major Battle Action Areas that provided cover and concealment or created obstacles during the Battle of Gettysburg.
Change in Tour Meet-up Location Sept. 3-Sept. 7 Due to Great Falls Festival
The 2PM tour on Sept. 3 and the 11AM and 2PM tours on Sept. 4-7 will meet at the Paterson Museum at 2 Market Street, Paterson, NJ 07501. Parking available either in the museum's parking lot, or the lot directly across the street.

Beach Lifeguard Alert - Watch Hill and Sailors Haven Currently Unguarded
Beaches at Watch Hill and Sailors Haven are currently unguarded. Lifeguard services are expected to resume on 9/5/26. Swimming in the ocean can be hazardous, especially when lifeguards are not present. Rip currents, breaking waves, changing tides, and other surf conditions can quickly place even experienced swimmers in danger. Visitors who choose to enter the water should use extreme caution, remain close to shore, never swim alone, and closely supervise children at all times. For emergencies, call 911.
Cunard Road Closure and Brooklyn Campgound Closure
The Cunard road is currently closed due to multiple slides, Brooklyn Campground is closed due to closure of the Cunard Road, All closures are weather related.
CLOSED - N. Kaibab Trail, Phantom, and Silver/Black Bridges
The entirety of the North Kaibab Trail, Phantom Ranch, and Silver and Black Bridges are closed until further notice. The NPS is conducting an air evacuation of approximately 50 individuals from the Phantom Ranch area. Xanterra will inform guests with future Phantom Ranch reservations about the status of their reservations. Please do not attempt to access the closed areas.
Reroute in Effect — Montello Segment
A portion of the Ice Age Trail and the parking area near the Krakow Fisheries lock are closed during construction, anticipated to continue through December. Eastbound hikers should bypass the closure by following the mulched path south and southeast from the boat launch parking area, continuing on the dirt driveway and through the Rendezvous Paddle and Sports parking area. Overnight Lodging and Stage 4 Water Restrictions take effect Aug. 31
Grand Canyon National Park will implement Stage 4 water restrictions on the South Rim beginning August 31 at noon due to extensive flash flood damage to the Transcanyon Waterline. Overnight accommodations will close, and only dry camping will be permitted. The park will remain open for day use, with food and beverage services, the Grand Canyon Clinic, and Post Office remaining open. Visitors and residents are asked to conserve water.

Wall Street and the Bryce Connector Trail (to Peekaboo Loop) are closed until further notice.
Visitor Pass Needed to Visit George Washington Carver Museum
All visitors to Tuskegee University, including those visiting the George Washington Carver Museum located on campus, are required to obtain a visitor pass before entering. This policy is part of the university's safety and security procedures. Visitor passes are issued by Tuskegee University Public Safety. Stop by the Campus Public Safety building upon arrival to receive your pass at 1103 West Montgomery Road, Tuskegee, AL 36088.
WILDFIRE CLOSURES: Sunrise, White River, & northern trails.
Due to several active fires on the north side of the park, the following closures are in effect until further notice: Sunrise & White River Roads, Grand Park area & trails, Northern Loop Trail, Wonderland Trail from Carbon River Suspension Bridge to White River Campground, & associated backcountry campgrounds.
Government Wash and 8.0 Mile Road Seasonal Closure May 15 – September 30
The Government Wash campground and 8.0 Mile Road will close on May 15th to vehicle access and overnight camping to assess and manage area improvements and protect visitors and staff from extreme heat risks. The campground is anticipated to reopen for overnight stays on October 1st. It will remain open this summer to non-motorized vehicle access for daytime, non-camping related activities.
Loop Drive closed in Tucson Mountain District (West Side) due to storms.
The majority of the loop drive (both Hohokam Rd and Golden Gate Rd) are closed due to debris from severe storms. Crews are working to resolve the issue; however, expect closures to continue into the rest of the week. More storms are expected in the coming hours and days. Sand and debris have also spilled onto parts of Sandario Rd. but are passable with caution. Gates Pass Rd southeast of the park is also experiencing delays, visit https://www.pima.gov/898 for information on Pima County Road closures.
DeMartin Trail and Campground
As part of CalTrans work to develop a new highway route that is more stable and safer, they will be undertaking geotechnical drilling this fall and winter. Hikers and campers in the area will likely see and hear heavy equipment at work and hear noise associated with the drilling, which may be 24 hours/day at times. Redwood National and State Parks has worked with CalTrans to minimize the impacts to users of this area while keeping the trail and campground open and accessible.
Paving at Alley Spring Campground Beginning 9/8/2026
Alley Spring Campground will close for paving from Tuesday, September 8th through Monday, September 21st for paving. The closure will include the river access and the "Bluff Hole" swimming area. Floaters putting in or taking out at Alley Spring will need to use the Burr Oak river access on the other side of the river. All pre-existing reservations during the closure have been cancelled or altered and refunds issued. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Howitzer and Siege Trails Closed Beginning 9/7
The Howitzer and Siege trails will be closed starting on 9/7 for several weeks due to bridge repairs.
Visitor Center Temporarily Closed due to High Temperatures
The visitor center is temporarily closed due to high interior temperatures. Upon arrival proceed directly to the Saxton House. The Saxton House will be open to all visitors during normal hours, and guided tours will be temporarily replaced by ranger talks.
Level 1 Fire Advisory for areas in Stehekin
Chelan County Sheriff's Office issued a Level 1 Fire Advisory (Get Ready) for areas in Stehekin, Stehekin Valley Road from Harlequin Bridge to High Bridge, including Company Creek Road and side roads. Visitors should be aware there is a wildfire in the area. There are park closures in effect. For park closures visit the Fire Closures page. Stehekin businesses are open and continue to welcome visitors outside of the closure areas.
Accessible Boardwalk at Birthplace to close for Emergency Repairs on 8/31.
The Accessible Boardwalk at the Birthplace Unit of the park will close for emergency repairs on Monday, August 31, 2026 until further notice. Please check back here or to park social media for updates.
Tyler Bend Pavilion Closure
Starting on January 20, 2026, the Tyler Bend Pavilion will be closed for construction on the pavilion restrooms. The Tyler Bend Pavilion parking area and Lower Launch River access remain open to the public. The Pavilion is expected to re-open no later than September 4, 2026.
Abó Visitor Center Closed, 8/31
The Abó Visitor Center and restrooms will be closed on Monday, August 31. The Abó Unit parking lot and trails will remain open from 9AM to 5PM. We apologize for the inconvenience. NPS 300 Road Conditions
NPS 300 to Big Tubes has not been evaluated since the most recent rainfall. A high clearance vehicle is recommended. The road past Big Tubes is very rough and only accessible to high-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicles.
Upcoming Site Closure – Adams Farm at Penn’s Hill
Starting August 31, the Adams Farm at Penn’s Hill (John Adams and John Quincy Adams Birthplaces) will close for construction on a major cultural landscape project. The entire site will be inaccessible from August 24 through the remainder of the tour season. The Visitor Center and Peace field remain open and accessible.
Tent Camping Closed at Multiple East End Campgrounds
Due to increased human-wildlife interactions and food storage concerns, individual tent sites and group sites at Three Mile, Daisy Farm, Moskey Basin, and Caribou Island Campgrounds are currently closed. Tent and hammock camping are not permitted anywhere within the campground. Off-trail camping zones 10, 11, 12, 13, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38 are closed. Shelters remain open. Closed areas will be patrolled to ensure compliance.
Temporary Building Closure
The Township Hall, including park store and bathrooms, will be temporarily closed until September 12. Visitor operations will be run in a mobile visitor center in front of the building during usual business hours, Thursday through Monday, 9am to 5pm. Portable toilets are available for visitors. The A.M.E. Church is open as usual during business hours.
Elevated E. Coli levels - Fremont River and Sulphur Creek
Recent water quality testing shows elevated E. coli levels in the Fremont River and Sulphur Creek. A warning advisory has been issued by the Utah DEQ. Use caution if entering the water. Do not get water in your mouth, do not swim. Wash hands with soap and water.
Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in Effect
Fires are only allowed within a developed recreation site or improved site, or in an approved firepan at designated river campsites. Smoking is only allowed within an enclosed vehicle, in a developed recreation site, or in an area barren of flammable material.
Marblemount Bridge September Nighttime Closure
Skagit River Marblemount Bridge will be closed overnight for repairs September 7-11, Monday night-Friday morning, 8 pm-4 am. There is no access to Cascade River Road during the nighttime closure.
Road Construction
There will be road construction at both park units starting August 31, 2026, to September 6, 2026. Temporary traffic controls will be in place, and flaggers will guide visitors. Please follow all posted traffic control devices and directions from construction personnel. Crews may adjust construction schedules to accommodate weather or operational needs.
Stage 1 Fire Restrictions in Effect
Until further notice, the following are prohibited in all park areas: (1) Building, maintaining, attending, or using wood or charcoal fires anywhere but within campground- or picnic area-provided grills or grates. (The use of gas grills and camp stoves is permitted.) (2) Smoking is prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren of all flammable materials. (3) Discharging or using any kind of fireworks or other pyrotechnic devices.
Current East Rim Trail Status: Open
As of Wednesday, August 26, 2026, the East Rim Trail System remains open. For more information, visit the website linked below. In good conditions the mountain bike trails are open 6 am-11 pm for bikers and as posted for other trail users. In wet or hazardous conditions, the trail will close to all users to prevent damage. Be flexible; conditions may change throughout the day.
Visitor Center Parking Lot Closed From September 1 to September 8
The visitor center parking lot will be closed from September 1st to September 8th for the SantaCaliGon festival in downtown Independence. Parking will be limited around the visitor center and surrounding neighborhoods.
Many Areas in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park Now Open
The remaining storm and safety closures that remain include Mauna Loa Road beyond the gate at Kīpukapuaulu, Kīpukapuaulu Trail, Nāmakanipaio Campground and cabins, and the Kahuku Unit.
Partial Road Closures 8/29-8/30
Part of E Evergreen Blvd will be closed from Saturday (8/29) 7 am - Sunday (8/30) 6 pm. The closure will extend from east of the Fort Vancouver roundabout to just before the Fort Vancouver Visitor Center parking lot. Part of E 5th St will be closed Saturday (8/29) 4 pm - 8 pm and Sunday (8/30) 7 am - 2 pm.
Active wildfire in the park
U.S. Wildland Fire Service and Virginia Department of Forestry are responding to an approximately 1.26-acre fire near Stull Run Trail in the south district of Shenandoah National Park. The fire is not currently threatening any structures, and all park trails and facilities remain open at this time.
Partial Fishing Closures on the Madison, Firehole and Gibbon Rivers
The Madison, Firehole and Gibbon (downstream of Norris Campground) rivers are closed to fishing daily between 2 p.m. and sunrise until water temperatures cool to protect the park's native and wild trout fisheries. Most other rivers and streams are open to fishing, as specified in park fishing regulations.
Towpath Trail Improvements
Hunt House Trailhead to north end of Beaver Marsh boardwalk closed from Monday, August 17 at 7 am to Friday, September 18 at 5 pm. Weekdays only, open on weekends. Beaver marsh open and accessible via Ira Trailhead. Boston Trailhead to Lock 29 in Peninsula: August 24–November 20, 2026 and March 29–April 21, 2027.
Cedar Breaks Water Service Interruption
Due to a water service interruption, drinking water is currently unavailable throughout Cedar Breaks National Monument. Flush toilets and campground showers are also unavailable; visitors may use the pit/vault toilets in the picnic area.

Stay Away From Bull Elk
Bull elk are fast and unpredictable this time of year and can seriously injure people. If an elk charges, run. In addition to staying at least 25 yards (23 m) away from elk and bison, always stay at least 100 yards (91 m) away from bears and wolves.
Lees Ferry Campground Partial Closure
The upper loop of the Lees Ferry Campground is closed for renovations. Large equipment will be paving at the Lees Ferry campground. Do not enter construction area.
The Oaks Tours by Reservation Only
The Oaks, the historic home of Booker T. Washington, is open by reservation only during an ongoing construction and preservation project. Built in 1899, the Queen Anne-style home is undergoing exterior rehabilitation work. Tours are limited to a maximum of 5 visitors per reservation. Crews Responding to Mount Tom Creek and Mt. Barnes Fires
Fire managers are responding to two lightning fires in a remote areas Olympic National Park. The Mount Tom Creek Fire has burned 69 acres 5 miles west-northwest of Mount Olympus. The Mt. Barnes Fire has burned 0.5 acres 1.5 miles southeast of Mt. Barnes. Firefighters are using indirect confinement tactics as part of a full-suppression strategy. Backpackers are encouraged to consider alternative routes to the Hoh River Trail should fire activity increase. There are no evacuation orders or closures.
West Nile Virus detected in Mosquito Samples at the Floyd Estate, FI Pines
West Nile Virus has been detected at the William Floyd Estate and Fire Island Pines from mosquito samples collected on August 12, 2026. Increased surveillance of mosquitoes in the area will continue. It is recommended visitors limit or forego outdoor activities between dusk and dawn.
Kahuku Unit Closed Until Further Notice
The Kahuku Unit is closed following Hurricane Lala which impacted the Kaʻū District the hardest. Staff are assessing damage to roads, trails and other infrastructure.
Sulphur Banks Bridge Closed; Boardwalk is Open
The Sulphur Banks Bridge is damaged and closed until further notice. The Haʻakulamanu area, boardwalk and Sulphur Banks Trail are open and accessible from the west side near Steam Vents.
Water Outage
Visitor Center Water Outage! Due to a break in the water line, water is currently unavailable at the Visitor Center, including bathrooms and drinking fountains. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while repairs are underway. We’ll provide an update when water service has been restored. Please plan accordingly if you are visiting the area. We recommend bringing 32oz of water per person for a cave visit.
Special Event: September 19 & 26, 2026 - Temporary Closures of Scenic Drive
Reef Ride Bike Days: For this special event in honor of National Public Lands Day, the Scenic Drive will be closed to motor vehicles for part of the day on Saturday, September 19 and Saturday, September 26, 2026. The road will be closed to vehicles from sunrise to 3 pm to allow for bicycles and pedestrians to enjoy the road at a more leisurely pace. The main road through the park (UT highway 24) - will remain open and unaffected by this closure.
Good Luck Road Parking Lot Closed
The Good Luck Road Parking Lot is closed. Please use the main entrance located at 6565 Greenbelt Road, Greenbelt, MD 20770.
Intermittent Traffic Control on Rosenstock Road August 31 - September 16
Rosenstock Road in Fort Barry area of Marin Headlands will have intermittent lane closures as needed to safely remove eucalyptus trees. Please obey traffic controls. Signage, cones, and flaggers will inform visitors when traffic control is in effect. Work will occur Monday thru Friday 8am to 5pm. No work on Labor Day.
Trail Maintenance Underway Near Sand Cave
Crews are using Ridge Trail from Hensley to Sand Cave Trail to complete trail work. Trails remain open; some sections may be muddy or messy.
Bison are in the Breeding Season
A reminder that bison are going about their normal life cycle and may be more aggressive. A raised tail is a warning sign and the animal may charge or give chase. Please give a wide distance, at least 100 yards. There are other trails you may choose to hike without encountering the bison.
Guardrail Repair: Expect Construction Delays
Guardrail repair will take place from 8/25-8/28 and from 8/31-9/4. There will be no full road closures, but delays of up to 30 minutes are possible. Delays will be minimized from 6-9am and from 3:30-6pm. Work on the east side is between Devils Kitchen and Red Canyon Overlook. West side work is between the west entrance and Redlands View overlook. Please be alert for construction workers and flaggers.
Great Hall, Faneuil Hall Closures: September 2026
Due to scheduled events, the Great Hall will close early on September 2 and 11. The Visitor Center Desk on the market floor will remain open.
Increased Logging Traffic Along Swift Brook Road
Be alert for logging trucks along Swift Brook Road between the monument boundary and the start of the Loop Road. Logging trucks will be transporting logs on Swift Brook Road to Roberts Road. Logging trucks ALWAYS have the right of way. Keep your headlights on. Never stop on roads or bridges. Pull over to the side of the road to allow trucks to pass by.
Road Closure: Sunset Crater Volcano September 21 through October 21
Beginning September 21, Forest Road 545 will close to all vehicle traffic starting near the intersection with Highway 89A to the Sunset Crater Volcano entrance kiosk for culvert work. Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument remains OPEN and accessible via Forest Road 545 through Wupatki National Monument. Plan for extra travel time—the drive between visitor centers is about 19 miles/30 minutes. The road is expected to reopen October 22.
Southern Section of Ocean Path Closed for Repairs
Starting Aug 31, a section of Ocean Path will be closed for repairs from a trailhead across from the Otter Point parking lot to the trail's southern terminus.

Pennsylvania Memorial Observation Deck Closed
A renovation project for the nearby Comfort Station requires electrical service to be shut off. This shut off affects lighting in the spiral staircase leading up to the Pennsylvania Memorial observation deck. The staircase is now too dark to maintain visitors’ safety. The observation deck will remain closed until the Comfort Station project is complete in early-to-mid November. Note: The base of the Pennsylvania Memorial remains open to visitation during this time.
Schoodic Mountain Road Closed for Repairs
Starting Aug 31, the Schoodic Mountain Road will be closed for repairs from Schoodic Loop Road to the summit of Schoodic Head. Workers will be operating heavy equipment for resurfacing, regrading and ditching.

Abrams Falls Trail is closed Mondays-Thursdays through September 30 to replace aging footlog bridges and improve visitor safety. The trail will open to hikers Fridays-Sundays and on Labor Day during construction.

South Shore Quinault Road Washed Out Beyond Park Boundary
South Shore Road – which is maintained by Jefferson County – is closed due to a major wash-out. For more information, visit the Jefferson County website.
Great Sand Dunes Currently at Stage 1 Fire Restrictions
As of August 18th, Great Sand Dunes is under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions. All wood and charcoal fires must be in established fire rings in designated campsites or picnic sites. No other open fires are allowed. Fires MUST BE put out COLD before leaving your site and must not be left unattended. camp stoves and other pressurized gas devices allowed.
No Water Available at the Clarno Unit
There is currently no water available at the Clarno Unit of the park. Please plan accordingly and bring water when visiting.
Manzanar Remains Open During US 395 Pavement Project
CalTrans begins a monthslong pavement project on US 395 adjacent to Manzanar National Historic Site on Monday, May 11, 2026. Crews will be working to ensure access to Manzanar remains open, but it will be important to travel cautiously as typical access may involve detours and map apps may be inaccurate. Though work is scheduled only during weekdays, lane closures and detours will be in place throughout the week. Currently, the site may only be accessed via the south entrance.
North Beach and North Beach Road temporarily closed to visitors.
Point Reyes National Seashore has temporarily closed North Beach after a fishing vessel ran aground early on Friday, August 21st. No injuries or fuel leaks have been reported, and the National Park Service is coordinating with the U.S. Coast Guard, NOAA and Marin County Fire as the Coast Guard works to secure a contractor to remove fuel from the vessel. Visitors are asked to stay clear of North Beach while the closure remains in effect to allow first responders to work safely and without interference.
Food-Conditioned Bear in Arrigetch Peaks
On August 13, 2026 a brown bear entered camps and food caches in the Arrigetch Peaks area, obtaining food from a soft-sided, bag-type Bear Resistant Food Container (BRFC). At this time, we strongly recommend hard-sided BRFCs for all visitors to the Arrigetch Peaks area. Hard-sided BRFCs can be checked out at the Bettles Ranger Station. Backpackers in the area should maintain a high level of bear awareness and continue to follow best practices for camping in bear country.
Temporary Delays & Closures for Tennessee Valley Trails August 24 - Sept 4
Road crew will be traveling to work sites via Bobcat Trail to perform repair work on a section of Coastal Trail from the intersection of Fox to the intersection of Pirates Cove Trail. Work will start on August 24 and last for approximately two weeks. 8 AM to 4 PM Monday through Friday. Once that section is complete work will start from Pirates Cove to the intersection of Tennessee Valley. Please obey closures and stay away from work sites. Signage will be posted near trail and road intersections.
Toxic Algae Found – Blue Mesa Water Quality Advisory
Cyanotoxins are currently present in the Iola Basin. Until further notice, the park recommends that no person or pet swims in, or drinks from, reservoir waters in the Iola Basin. Use caution when fishing, boating, or recreating in Blue Mesa Reservoir.
Harmful Algal Blooms Occurring in Lake Richie and Intermediate Lake
Blooms are tested for toxin levels and monitored. Toxin levels are consistently low on Isle Royale. It is not recommended to filter water in any areas where there is surface scum, strong odors, or other evidence of a significant bloom. Blooms move around depending on wind and rain – filter water from places where blooms are not present or a different water source. It is low risk to filter water from relatively clear areas of an impacted water source.
Construction in the South End of the Park
Construction projects underway. Moose-Wilson Road between Murie Ranch and LS Rockefeller Preserve open with delays of 45 minutes in both directions. No roadside parking on Moose-Wilson Road. Island Mine Campground Stream Low
The stream has very little water flow. Campers should bring enough water to Island Mine or plan on collecting water at Carnelian Beach to the south.
Stage 1 Fire Restrictions in Effect
Until further notice, the following are prohibited in all park areas: (1) Building, maintaining, attending, or using wood or charcoal fires anywhere but within campground- or picnic area-provided grills or grates. (The use of gas grills and camp stoves is permitted.) (2) Smoking is prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren of all flammable materials. (3) Discharging or using any kind of fireworks or other pyrotechnic devices.

Gauley Tailwaters Campground Closure
The Tailwaters Campground in Gauley River National Recreation Area, located below Summersville Dam, will temporarily close from September 11 through September 28 in order to allow for more parking and better river access during the busy Gauley season.
Dryweed Island Area Closure for Campsites, Houseboat Sites, and Day Use
Campsites, houseboat sites, and the day use sites are closed on Dryweed Island and nearby sites due to unsafe bear‑human interactions. Affected locations include Breakwater Cove, Dryweed Island, Harrison Bay, Makinen Point, Mio Beach, Stones Point, Loon Cove, Rock Shelf, Lyle Mine Island, Tango Channel, and Harrison Bay E. Visitors may only access the harborside of Bush Key through Fall 2026 to protect nesting Sooty Terns, Brown Noddies, and Magnificent Frigatebirds. Boaters must maintain a distance of 100 feet from the island's mean low tide.
Carter G. Woodson Home NHS temporarily closed — will Reopen November 2026
The Carter G. Woodson Home National Historic Site is temporarily closed due to a full renovation project. The Grand Reopening of the site will take place on Saturday, November 7, 2026. Please continue to visit the website for future updates.
Burn Ban in Park
Due to high fire danger, Hot Springs National Park has enacted a BURN BAN, August 15, 2026. Only gas and charcoal grills are currently allowed for use in the campground and picnic areas.
Temporary Partial Closure Redwood Creek Trail August 19 - Sept 4
A section of the boardwalk along the Redwood Creek Trail will be closed from Wednesday, August 19 through Friday, September 4. The closure area spans from just past Cathedral Grove to the junction with the Fern Creek Trail. A detour will be in place.
Reroute in Effect — Skunk and Foster Lakes Segment
A reroute is in effect between Indian Valley Rd and Grenlie Rd from September 1, 2026 to January 5, 2027 due to private hunting. Bypass the closure by heading southwest, then south on N Foley Rd, and turning east on Grenlie Rd. The section between Grenlie Rd and Rieben Rd is also closed during the 9‑day gun deer season. Restrooms Closed
Castle Clinton restrooms are closed due to a maintenance issue. At the moment, we are not able to determine when they will reopen. Additional public restrooms are available in Battery Park and at the Staten Island Ferry Terminal.
Temporary Closure - Douglas Center
The Paul H Douglas Center is closed until Wednesday 8/19, and all public programs are cancelled until further notice. Several parts of the park are inaccessible due to the weather event from August 11th. It is not advisable to go in the lake after a heavy rain. Use extreme caution when visiting as most locations have no power and are out of service.
Emergency Closure of Portions of Christiansted National Historic Site
Portions of Fort Christiansvaern and portions of D. Hamilton Jackson Park are temporarily closed due to unsafe conditions. For your safety, do not enter closed or barricaded areas and follow all posted signs and staff instructions. Crews are working to secure the affected areas and restore safe public access. The closure will remain in effect until conditions are determined to be safe.
A.G Gaston Motel Closed for Construction
The 1954 wing of the A.G. Gaston Motel is closed for renovation. Visit the Temporary Visitor Center in the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute at 520 16th St N, Birmingham, AL 35203 open Wednesday–Friday 10 am to 4 pm. The construction is expected to take 18 months. When completed the site will increase accessibility with a new elevator, new exhibits to tell the story of the building and Project C, and revitalize this historic landmark. Closure of Billy Mitchell Airport for Repaving Project
The Billy Mitchell Airport (HSE) is closed to accommodate a runway pavement rehabilitation project. The project will provide full resurfacing of paved areas, new reflective paint, and new tie-downs and anchors, improving visitor safety and enhancing the overall visitor experience.

Fort Spokane boat launch & day use open; Campground open with some closures
Fort Spokane Campground has re-opened to the public with minimal closures as of 8/14/2026. Please remain in open areas of the campground only. The Fort Spokane day use area and boat launch remain open. Please continue to use caution throughout these areas.
Hyde Street Pier Closure
Hyde Street Pier and access to historic ships will be closed to public until further notice starting 11/04/2024 in preparation for Hyde Street Pier renovation work. Limited public access to the ships is available on Saturdays and Sundays at Mare Island.

Closures at Little Hunting Creek Bridge Aug. 14 - 17 and Aug. 21 - 24
Three of the four lanes on the GWMP at Little Hunting Creek Bridge will close from 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, to 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, and from 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, to 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24. Only one lane will remain open during these periods. Flaggers will alternate northbound and southbound traffic through the open lane. Drivers should expect major delays during the Friday morning and evening commutes and the Monday morning commute. Allow extra time or use another route.

Bat Tests Positive for Rabies, Visitors Urged to Report Potential Contact
A rabid bat was found at Olympic National Park near Staircase Bridge on August 9th. At approximately 2 p.m., the bat swooped down onto an unidentified woman and was temporarily caught in her hair. This individual is at risk for rabies and should seek healthcare immediately, as well as contact the Mason County Health Department at 360-427-9670 ext. 405. More at the link.

Construction Begins on Glenn-Viniard Road in Chickamauga Battlefield
Beginning August 12, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will temporarily close Glenn‑Viniard Road between LaFayette Road and Wilder Road to support construction work in Chickamauga Battlefield. During this period, all public traffic will be prohibited on the closed portion of the road. The park expects the project to be completed by early September 2026. A temporary detour will be implemented to maintain visitor access to the designated battlefield tour routes.
Expect long delays at the Hoh Rainforest
Lengthy delays are likely at the Hoh Rainforest entrance station between 7:30 AM - 5 PM. Plan ahead for a 1-3+ hour wait. When the parking lot fills, traffic is metered at the entrance station. Bring what you need for a long wait, and be mindful of not blocking entrances to businesses or homes along the road.
Compost Toilet Removal at KAHO
Beginning Monday, August 10, crews will be removing the compost toilet located on the trail between the Petroglyph Boardwalk and ʻAiʻōpio. Work is expected to last approximately two weeks. The trail will remain open during this time. Visitors should use caution when passing through the work area and be aware of equipment, crews, and construction noise. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Heat Alert - Temperatures May Be Higher Than Forecast
Actual temperatures in the park may be up to 6℉ (3 ℃) higher than forecasts provided by the National Weather Service (NWS). Temperatures in rocky, exposed areas may be up to 10℉ (6 ℃) hotter than the actual temperature. Please plan accordingly, stay hydrated, limit strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day, and be prepared for extreme heat conditions.
Accessibility Lifts Out of Service at Fort Sumter
The mobility lifts at Fort Sumter on the second and third levels are currently out of order. The bottom level of the fort, along with the water fountain, remains wheelchair accessible.

Fires allowed ONLY in park provided concrete fire rings between Stairwells 15 and 20. Do NOT make fire rings using rocks, logs or other items. When the Bay Area Air Quality Management District declares a Spare the Air Day, NO campfires, beach fires, or outdoor grills are allowed in the park. Fire Ban in Effect
Effective Thursday, August 6 building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, or campfire, charcoal grill, tiki torches, incense burners, candles, propane campfire, wood burning stoves, and devices using pressurized liquid or gas is prohibited. This includes the designated fire rings at South Beach. Propane fire pits are not allowed during the ban.
Rend Trail Closed through December 2027
The Rend Trail is closed for trail Improvements that will include a new parking area, restroom, and a small picnic area overlooking Arbuckle Creek at the Minden trailhead, structural improvements to five historic railroad trestles along the trail, and full trail surface rehabilitation. Additionally, construction of a large accessible ramp over the ‘big rock’ will replace a stairway, resulting in the only fully accessible earthen surface trail located within the park.
Full Burn Ban Begins August 7
Due to increased fire activity and dry vegetation, all campfires will be prohibited starting on August 7. This includes wilderness, backcountry, non-developed and developed areas, and coastal beaches. Propane and gas stoves are allowed, if operated at least three feet away from flammable vegetation and forest litter.
El Calderon Trail closed for construction through September 2026
The El Calderon Trail and parking area are closed from August 2025 through September 2026 for a major improvement project. NPS Road 100 will remain open for local traffic only, and the Continental Divide Trail will remain open for CDT thru-hikers.

44 Creek Bridge Failure
44 creek bridge is closed due to damage identified by a Federal Highway inspection team. This bridge is north of 44 Camp, approximately 7 miles south of the Redwood Creek trailhead and about 1 mile north of the Tall Trees river crossing. All trails remain open in the area, but crossing this ravine is dangerous and not advised. Hikers should plan to take alternative routes to 44 Camp, which will add at least 3.5 miles from Redwood Creek Trailhead. Stop by a visitor center for more information.
Project Safety Closure in Place Near Southernmost Groin in Buxton
Public access is closed for 300 feet north and south of a groin repair project site in Buxton, as well as the adjacent ocean area to the east. Surfers, swimmers, and all other recreationists should stay at least 300 feet from the southernmost groin area for safety purposes.

Alternate Route for Access to Root Glacier
The old route to access Root Glacier is no longer safe due to unstable ground. An alternative, new route exists past the Amazon Creek. Seek information at the visitor center or news release webpage.

Accessible Lift Inoperable at Parsonage
The accessible wheelchair lift for the Parsonage building is undergoing maintenance as of 7/10/26. Visitors who are unable to use stairs may not be able to enter the parsonage until this issue is resolved.
Juniper Lake Campground Closed
The Juniper Lake Campground and day use area is currently closed for maintenance and campground improvement projects. Potable water is not available in the campground. The Juniper Lake Road (access to lake and trailheads) is open. Please drive with caution as road crews and contractors may be actively working along the roadway.
Partial Beach Closures in Place in Front of Buxton Village
The beachfront in front of Buxton Village is temporarily closed due to the presence of threatened oceanfront structures and Dare County's beach nourishment project. Renourished sections of beach will open to the public immediately after construction activities conclude in the areas, generally within 24 hours.

Construction on North Park Road
Construction underway on North Park Road between Leeks Marina and Lizard Creek Campground. 15-min delays both directions 6am-9pm / 1-hour delays both directions 9pm-6am. The section of road is about 7 miles north of Colter Bay and 11.5 miles south of Yellowstone.

Due to the continued fire danger in Southern Oregon, Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve has instituted a full fire ban. To ensure public safety and to provide the highest degree of protection to park resources, the Fire Ban prohibits Campfires. Dingmans Falls Trail, Road, and Access Closed for Bridge Replacement
Dingmans Falls site is closed for a bridge replacement project and trail rehabilitation. All traffic, including pedestrian, cyclist, and vehicle traffic, is prohibited on the road and trail during construction.
Lifeguards at Herring Cove Beach Weekends ONLY
Lifeguards will be present at Herring Cove Beach on weekends ONLY until August 23. Pay attention to signage and swim at your own risk on weekdays.
Stage 2 Burn Restrictions
All campfires are prohibited. Devices using pressurized liquid or gas (stoves, grills or lanterns) that include shut-off valves are permitted when used in an area at least three feet or more from flammable material such as grasses or pine needles. Smoking is only allowed in an enclosed vehicle.
Construction Activity at Meyers Beach; Visitor and Kayak Access Maintained
Construction has begun on the Meyers Beach Access Path Project. Access to the beach and parking lot will remain open, but visitors should expect construction noise and closed lawn areas for staging. Kayak groups should move gear directly to the beach to reduce congestion. The project will upgrade the existing staircase to include a universally designed path, improving access to the beach and kayak launch for all visitors.
Jockey Hollow Outer Blue Loop and a Section of Primrose Trail Closed
Following storms on 7/3/2026, many park trails were closed due to blowdown of trees and hazardous conditions. As of 7/27/2026 most trails are passable. The Mount Kimble Trail (Outer Blue Loop) remains closed as well as a section of the Primrose Trail (Red Trail). Please check in at the Visitor Center for more information and take caution as summer storms continue to cause tree falls. Report any fallen trees to a Park Ranger.
Passaic River Bridge Trail (Teal Trail) Closed
The Passaic River Bridge Trail is closed between Tempe Wick Road and the Cross Estate in the New Jersey Brigade area due to construction of a new bridge.
Monsoon Season & Flash Floods
Heavy rains can cause sudden flooding, especially in canyons and washes. Do not drive or hike through flood waters. Get to high ground and wait for floods to subside. Some roads may close temporarily; closures are posted at the visitor center.
Bridge to Maryland Heights & C&O Canal CLOSED
The NPS is rehabilitating the stairway connecting the Goodloe Byron Memorial Footbridge to the C&O Canal NHP towpath. The stairway will be CLOSED beginning July 27 for approximately one month while crews install the new stairwell. A shuttle will run between C&O Canal Lock 34 and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Visitor Center. This will impact access to Maryland Heights, the Appalachian NST, and the Potomac Heritage NST.
Bicycles and Pedestrians now allowed on Volcano Road
Capulin Volcano Highway is now a roadway shared by multiple users that include vehicles, hikers, bikers, walkers and runners. Dogs on a minimum 6-foot leash are also allowed on the roadway. Be watchful of others that are present on the highway. Follow the new traffic flow signs and keep vehicle and bicycle speeds at the posted speed limits of 20 mph in general and 10 mph in the S curves. Let’s all stay safe!
Trail update 7/25/26
Most trails are open and ready for the public. Those that remain closed are the Charleston Road/ Goudey Trail past the Cherokee Path and the portion of Cherokee Path between the stockade fort and the Charleston Road.
Temporary Emergency Fire Closure
Open fires of any kind, including charcoal fires, are prohibited until conditions improve. Smoking is prohibited except for in vehicles or buildings where indicated. Use of gas stoves is permitted in areas that are clear of flammable materials.
Trail Closure
A portion of the Headland Trail is closed due to ongoing restoration work. Access to the trail will now close at 2:30 pm daily. All hikers must be off the trails by 4:45 pm.

Harmful Algae Bloom
A Harmful Algae Bloom has been confirmed in recent water samples taken from the Nelson's Landing and the Cottonwood Cove areas on Lake Mohave. To reduce health risks, the National Park Service recommends recreators limit body contact with these waters when algae is present. Partial Trail Closure
The crossover trail through the center of the historic area, near the flagpole, is temporarily closed for safety. The remainder of the main park trail is open.
Outer Island Nighttime Closure
Outer Island is closed to all use from 10 PM to 6 AM due to bear activity and food‑storage concerns. Day use is permitted outside these hours. The closure remains in effect until further notice to protect visitor safety and support ongoing wildlife management.
Trail Closure - Dunewood Trace
Temporary closure of the Dunewood Trace trail (2.2 miles), between Kemil Rd, and the Dunewood Campground (near the recycle bins), is now in effect until further notice due to construction of the new Marquette Greenway trail.

Construction for Seawall Project
Starting July 27, 2026, Castillo de San Marcos National Monument will begin construction to replace, raise and rehabilitate the park’s failing seawalls. The historic fort will remain accessible throughout the project. Some areas outside of the fort will be closed for safety.
Upper Fort Mason Roads and Parking Area Closures Fall 2025 - Fall 2026
Roads and parking areas at upper Fort Mason will have closures during utilities and seismic retrofit projects. Closures planned Fall 2025 through Fall 2026. Lots will be fenced and used as staging areas for projects occurring at Fort Mason. Signs will be posted in advance of utilities work as project progresses through each area at Fort Mason. Read signs and do not park in posted areas. Vehicles will be towed at owner's expense.
Ongoing Closure Notices

Stockton Island Trail Access
The trail between Presque Isle Bay and Quarry Bay on Stockton Island is open, but a footbridge on the western portion of the trail was washed out in a 2024 storm. Visitors must wade through shallow water or take an alternate route.
Home of FDR - Partial Closure of Rose Garden
The planting beds, lawns, and paths of the Rose Garden will be under construction from late March 2026 lasting through fall of 2026. This rehabilitation will restore the crisp, level character of the garden, improve access and infrastructure, and re-install historic rose and peony varieties. During this period, the Burial Site viewing area should remain available, but occasional disruptions may restrict public access. The graves, marble monument, pet graves, and sundial will not be impacted by this project.

Construction Activity at Little Sand Bay; Boat and Kayak Access Maintained
Construction for the Little Sand Bay Marina Rehabilitation Project begins May 1. The Town of Russell boat launch and the NPS kayak beach will remain open, with short detours around work areas. Expect reduced parking, delays, and increased noise. The Little Sand Bay Visitor Center will be closed in 2026 due to construction.

Bighorn Lake Elevation is Below 3625ft
When lake levels are below 3625, boaters are advised to avoid areas south of Horseshoe Bend and the South Narrows due to low water levels. Throughout the year, lake water levels fluctuate greatly. Hazards and launching abilities change with the water levels. Please use caution when recreating on Bighorn Lake.
Fire Danger VERY HIGH
Wood-burning fires and charcoal grills are prohibited. Propane and gas stoves allowed only in campground and picnic areas for cooking food. No smoking on trail. No roadside parking. Fireworks are always prohibited.
Avoid Water Contact at Sand Beach Lagoon (Not for Sand Beach)
Bacterial levels have exceeded public health standards at Sand Beach Lagoon and a Public Health Advisory has been posted. The public is advised against swimming at this beach until bacterial levels return to healthful levels. (Not for Sand Beach.)
No cold-water flow at the Serpentine Hot Springs bathhouse
There is currently no cold-water flow into the tub at Serpentine Hot Springs. Please proceed with caution. The National Park Service plans to complete repairs on the cold‑water pipe in August. Visitors are respectfully advised not to dig ditches or otherwise attempt to establish alternative cold‑water access. Thank you for your cooperation.
Status of Cascading Fountain at Meridian Hill Park
We appreciate your patience as we work to remove the sediment from the Meridian Hill Cascading Fountain. The discoloration occurred when two long-unused water lines were brought back online as part of our continuing effort to fine-tune the fountain’s operations. Visitors should begin seeing the fountain’s signature sparkling water again soon.

Detour along Mount Vernon Trail at Gravelly Point
Due to constriction for the Long Bridge Project, the Mount Vernon Trail will be temporarily detoured around the construction zone beginning on July 15, 2026. Trail users should expect periodic crossings of equipment and materials where the trail meets the construction access road. Detour will be in place through 2030.

Wind Cave Canyon Trail Closed for Repair and Improvement
Wind Cave Canyon Trail is closed so that the trail and adjoining road can be repaired from frequent washouts. Sixteen low water crossings will be hardened and the road resurfaced. The trail could be closed for several weeks. This closure does not affect any cave tours.

Round Spring Pavilion Parking Area Closed
The parking lot for the Round Spring Pavilion and for Round Spring itself is CLOSED for the remainder of the 2026 summer season while the low water bridge over Spring Valley Creek is rebuilt. Alternative parking near Round Spring Group Campsites 4-8 will provide trail access to the north side of Round Spring.
Round Spring Lower River Landing Closed
The lower river landing at Round Spring, located in the campground, is closed until further notice for paving. Floaters putting in or taking out at Round Spring should plan to use the upper landing behind Carr's Store.
Total Fire Restrictions Implemented June 20, 2026
Due to extreme fire conditions, all fires at Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area are prohibited effective 12:01 a.m., June 20, until further notice. No open flames are permitted. Only self-contained propane or gas cookstoves and lanterns are allowed during the full fire ban.
Mora Road Closed for Essential Repairs
Mora Road is closed to all traffic, including bicycles and pedestrians, at the campground. Rialto Beach is not accessible via Mora Road during this construction period. Mora Campground is open. This construction work will repair damage from a severe winter flood event, fortify the road against river migration, and protect long-term access to Rialto Beach.
Fort Jay front gate only — Temporary Closure.
The FRONT GATE of Fort Jay is temporarily closed to all. The fort is currently open to visitation Wednesday thru Sunday 10am to 4pm. Access to the fort will be via the western or rear sallyport.

Staircase Developed Area is Open, Use Caution in Burned Areas
The Staircase developed area is open. The surrounding wilderness areas will remain closed as repair and recovery efforts continue. Use extreme caution when entering burned areas. Burned landscapes may contain falling trees and branches, loose boulders, unstable ground, stump holes, landslides, and debris flows. Kennesaw Mountain Dr. Closed to Private Vehicles and Cyclists
Starting January 5th, 2026, the road to the top of Kennesaw Mountain will be closed to private vehicles and cyclists due to construction and painting. Shuttle service to the top of the mountain is ONLY available on weekends and select federal holidays. The park's Visitor Center is still accessible. Stehekin is Open, Services Limited at Stehekin Landing
Visitor and recreational opportunities continue to be available in the Stehekin Valley. Some services are limited at the Stehekin Landing following flood damage in December 2025.
Hobart Woodland Trail Temporary Closure
Hobart Woodland is closed until further notice while park crews work to clear several downed trees that are creating hazardous conditions for visitors.
Partial Closures to Little Calumet River Trail and Glenwood Dunes Trail
Marquette Greenway construction will require closing sections of the Glenwood Dunes Trail (April–December 2026) and Little Calumet River / Mnoké Prairie Trail (May–December 2026). Closure dates may shift as work progresses. Please follow all posted closures and check the park website or NPS App for updates.
Munising Falls Trail Closed Until Further Notice
The Munising Falls Trail within Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is closed until further notice. Approximately 75-feet of the paved trail was washed out April 28th from recent heavy rainfall and seasonal snow melt.
Church Loop Trail Closure
The Church Loop Trail in the Thurmond area of the park is temporarily closed due to downed trees.
Stage 2 fire restrictions in effect
No setting, building, maintaining, attending, or using open fires of any kind in the park. This includes campfires and charcoal fires in Watchman Campground, South Campground, and picnic areas in Zion Canyon. Stoves fueled by petroleum or liquid propane gas are allowed. Smoking is prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle.
Stage II Fire Restrictions in effect - campfires banned
Stage II Fire Restrictions are in effect at Great Basin National Park. Due to extreme fire danger, campfires, charcoal grills, and outdoor smoking are prohibited throughout the park. Gas and liquid-fueled stoves are permitted.

East Rim Drive is CLOSED from Park Headquarters to Phantom Ship Overlook
East Rim Drive is currently CLOSED to all public access from Park Headquarters to Phantom Ship Overlook for road construction. West Rim Drive, North Entrance Road, East Rim Drive from North Junction to Phantom Ship Overlook, Cloudcap Road, and Pinnacles Road are now OPEN for travel.
Biscuit Basin Closed Due to Hydrothermal Explosion
The parking lot, boardwalk, and Firehole River at Biscuit Basin, located north of Old Faithful, is closed to all travel until further notice due to the possibility of another event at the site of a hydrothermal explosion that occurred July 23, 2024.
Arlington House Potential Closures
Due to HVAC system issues, Arlington House may close to visitors when interior temperatures reach 85°F. Temporary closures may occur with little notice to protect the safety and comfort of visitors and staff.
Food Storage Regulations in Effect

Partial Trail Closure at Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk
Closed portion of Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk Trail along Burns Waterway due to unsafe conditions from erosional damage. This trail portion will remain closed while funding is sought for repair work. Pier access remains open on either side of closure.
Cave Tour Reservations
Advance cave tour reservations up until August 31st are available. September reservations will become available on August 1st. Reservations are strongly recommended. Reservations full? Choose a day to come to the park early in the day to purchase a same day cave tour ticket.
Mainland Museum Closure
The Cumberland Island Museum will be closed for an extended period due to roof leakages. We apologize for any inconvenience but look forward to reopening to you in the future.

Due to very high fire danger, the extended weather forecast, and current fire activity in the State of Colorado, Stage 2 Fire Restrictions are now in effect within Rocky Mountain National Park. When Stage 2 Fire Restrictions are in effect, this means that all campfires, including charcoal briquette fires are not permitted anywhere within Rocky Mountain National Park. This ban is effective beginning today, June 29, and will remain in effect until further notice.

Annual/Seasonal Canyoneering Closures
The following are closed to entry through 8/31/2026 to protect sensitive resources: the heads of Fivemile Wash & Burro Wash descending east 2 miles; Shinob Canyon + all routes descending into Shinob (including Na-gah, Nighthawk, & Timpie); and Arch Nemesis Canyon, including the route exiting at Capitol Gorge + all direct tributary canyons.

Two Medicine North Shore Trailhead Reroute
In 2026, Two Medicine's North Shore Trailhead is not accessible due to construction in the Two Medicine Campground. A reroute has been established to access the North Shore Trail but does require a ford (unbridged water crossing). Directional signage is in place marking the reroute. Hikers may also access Twin Falls, Upper Two Medicine Lake, No Name Lake, and Dawson Pass without a ford, by using the South Shore Trail. Note: this adds approximately 1 mile of distance, one-way.

Effective Monday, June 29, campfires or the ignition of wood, briquettes, or any fuel in fire pits, fire pans, and barbeque grills, are banned in all portions of North Cascades National Park Service Complex, which includes North Cascades National Park, Ross Lake National Recreation Area, and Lake Chelan National Recreation Area.. This applies to anything that produces ash, including charcoal grills. Propane fire pits are not allowed during the ban.
Big South Fork’s Brewster Bridge Road to Temporarily Close for Repair
Brewster Bridge Road in Big South Fork NRRA will temporarily close for repair and re-pavement beginning on Monday, June 29. The road was heavily damaged from significant rain events in 2022 and 2023. The area boat launch and day use area will be inaccessible during the project.
Patriots Point Ferries Accessibility Information
Ferries to Fort Sumter from Patriots Point are not always accessible for individuals who use mobility assistance devices or have trouble navigating stairs. The Fort Sumter Visitor Center departure location is fully accessible or visitors can call Fort Sumter Tours (843-722-2628) for current Patriots Point accessibility conditions.
Areas of Meridian Hill Park closed for repairs
Much of the upper level of the park is closed to rehabilitate the grass. Fountains and the reflecting pool are open but may be turned off or drained occasionally for maintenance. The reflecting pool will undergo repairs June 20-28. Visit the Meridian Hill Park page for more information.
Going-to-the-Sun Road is Open for 2026 Season
The Going-to-the-Sun Road is fully open for the 2026 summer season. The road may now be accessed by motorized vehicles over Logan Pass from both the West Glacier and St. Mary Entrances.
Please use caution when visiting park grounds.
Park grounds and walking paths are accessible but visitors should use caution as there are fallen trees, stumps, and other typhoon debris.
Death Canyon Trailhead Construction Closure
Death Canyon Road and Trailhead are closed to all use. Start hikes at alternative trailheads such as Granite Canyon, LSR Preserve, and Taggart Lake.
Talisman-Barrett Beach Dock Closed for 2026 Season; Services Limited
Due to damage from winter ice, the Talisman-Barrett Beach dock is closed. NPS staff are evaluating options for repairs. There is no timeline for restoration. Boaters should plan to anchor in the bay to access the site. Be advised that the area is extremely shallow. Restroom maintenance will be limited during this time and visitors must pack out all trash and belongings. Public use of some areas will be restricted for safety.
Delays along Highway 101
There are multiple traffic stops along Highway 101 from Orick, CA to Crescent City, CA due to road construction. Extra time may be needed to travel throughout the park. Delay times may vary. Please stay alert and drive cautiously.
Pet Restrictions, Beach Driving Closures in Effect March 15 through Labor Day
To protect threatened nesting shorebirds, pets are prohibited in the Otis Pike Wilderness and on federally-managed ocean beaches. Beach driving is closed at Lighthouse Beach, Sailors Haven and the Wilderness area.
Limited access to areas at Asan Beach.
Due to the impacts of Typhoon Sinlaku, areas of Asan Beach remain inaccessible. Visitors should use caution when walking to the beach area and stay out of damaged areas.
Ryan Visitor Center Phone Line Out of Service
The Floyd Bennett Field Ryan Visitor Center phone line (718-338-3799) is out of service. For information on ranger programs in the Jamaica Bay Unit, call the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center at 718-318-4340. For questions about permits, events, or other park information, call the general park information line at 718-354-4606. For emergencies, call U.S. Park Police's 24-hour dispatch at 718-354-4700.
Battery 234 Loop Road Closure
The Battery 234 Loop Road and Battery Cooper within the GUIS, Fort Pickens Management Area will be closed to all for vehicle, bicyclists, and foot (pedestrian) traffic until further notice for safety purposes until the park can correct the leaning and structurally unstable historic Tower 234 that poses danger to visitors and staff. The beach access points for pedestrians from the Gulf (south) side will also be closed. The pipe gates at the entrance and exit points will be locked with accompanied signage.
Barataria Visitor Center and Trails are Closed
Because of upcoming demolition and construction of the trails and Visitor Center, all trails at the Barataria Preserve and the Visitor Center are closed, with the exception of Twin Canals Trail. This is a day-use area only with no restrooms. Visitor services are relocated to the Wetlands Education Center and trails at 4917 City Park Drive, Jean Lafitte, 70067. Rangers will be on site Wednesdays and Thursdays 10 am to 2 pm for programming and ranger talks at the Town of Lafitte's Civic Center.
Broken Windsock at Serpentine Hot Springs
The windsock at the Serpentine Hot Springs airstrip is broken, and the National Park Service is in the process of ordering a replacement. At this time, we do not have an estimated date for when it will be reinstalled. Please use caution when utilizing the airstrip.
Glenmont Heat Advisory
The house at Glenmont is currently experiencing high heat conditions. As a result, house tours may be abbreviated or canceled due to safety concerns.
Vehicle Break-Ins
Vehicle break-ins have occurred at the King Canyon Trailhead, as well as at other trailheads throughout the park. Hide valuables and consider taking them with you, secure your vehicle, and report any suspicious activity. Please call 911 to report criminal activity or the Pima County Sherriff's Department Non-Emergency number at 520-351-4900.
Reds Meadow Road Access Restrictions in 2026
Reds Meadow Road remains under construction in 2026 and will be closed Monday through Friday from June 13 through July 1, then Monday through Wednesday from July 2 through September 20, then Monday through Friday starting September 21.
Hot Conditions
Limit strenuous hiking to early morning and late evening hours. Expect temperatures in the High Peaks and Chalone Peak to be at least 10 degrees hotter than parking areas. Drink plenty of water and carry at least one liter of water for each hour of hiking. Bring salty snacks, a hat, and sunscreen for the hike. Know the signs and symptoms of heat related illnesses. In case of a heat related emergency get to a cool place and seek help immediately.

Being Prepared for Excessive Heat & Humidity
Congaree can be hot & humid from late spring through early fall. Be sure that you & your party (including pets) have adequate water & choose activities that fit your level of physical fitness. Consider visiting early in the morning when it is cooler.

I-70 Closure in Downtown Topeka May Affect Travel to the Park
I-70 is closed through downtown Topeka between Topeka Boulevard and 8th Avenue due to construction. Visitors traveling to Brown v. Board of Education National Historical Park should allow extra travel time and follow posted detours. Westbound visitors may continue on I-70 and follow signs to local exits near downtown Topeka. Eastbound visitors should use I-470 around Topeka, then connect to local streets to reach the park at 1515 SE Monroe Street. Check KanDrive.gov or call 511 for current road condition

The Electric Vehicle charging station is non-functional. There is no timeline for when it may become available. Please plan accordingly.

As of June 7, 2026, the park is enforcing size and weight limits for vehicles on the Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway. Vehicles that exceed length, width, height, or weight limits cannot travel between Canyon Junction and the park's East Entrance. See the current limits on the page linked below.
Road workers on Park Road in Davis Bayou
Phase II of the Davis Bayou Bicycle and Pedestrian Path is in process. Visitors may encounter minor traffic delays and flaggers on Eagle Point and Park Road.
Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center Closed, Store and Grounds Open
Starting November 20, 2025 the Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center will be closed while updates are made to building systems. Front Desk operations including visitor orientation will move to the adjacent Fredericksburg Battlefield Bookstore. The Chancellorsville Visitor Center remains open to visitors 9am - 5pm all week.
Your GPS May Be Wrong
There are five entrances to the park. GPS may take you to the wrong entrance or attempt to follow the most direct route, which could lead to closed gates. It can take hours to reroute to the correct entrance. Check directions & maps, not just your GPS.
No Potable Water in Park Campgrounds
There currently is no water available in any campground in Great Basin National Park. Water is available at the RV Fill and Dump Station, the Great Basin, and the Lehman Caves Visitor Center as well as some local businesses.
Accessing Fort Barrancas
Fort Barrancas is open 9 am–4 pm Wednesday through Sunday. To access Fort Barrancas, visitors will need to enter the Naval Air station Pensacola through the west gate.
Expect long lines at entrances on weekends.
Lengthy delays are likely at the southwest park entrance on SR706 on weekends. Check Google Maps for backup (represented by the orange/red line) at link below. Please do not block driveways or roads while in line outside the park.
Kaymoor Miners Trail Closure
From June 15 through November 19 the upper part of the Kaymoor Miners Trail (from Kaymoor Top down to the mine site at the junction with the Kaymoor Trail) will be closed Monday through Thursday due to a trail rehab project. The trail is expected to be fully open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Heavy Traffic and High Visitation Alert
Pinnacles experiences extremely high visitation on weekends, holidays, and during favorable weather, especially in the spring. Expect long lines and delays between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm. If you're planning to hike the High Peaks, Condor Gulch, Balconies, or Moses Spring Trail, it’s recommended to arrive before 8:00 am (parking may fill earlier). Additionally, campground access may be temporarily delayed during peak periods of visitation when ALL incoming traffic is held.
Jacob Riis Park Access Restrictions
Due to extremely hazardous conditions Gateway National Recreation Area has restricted access to sections of Jacob Riis Park. Erosion has created unsafe conditions from Bays 1-5, and portions of the eastern beach are closed.

Roadwork may cause delays on US 41/Tamiami Trail
Current roadwork is ongoing along the park's northern boundary on US Highway 41/Tamiami Trail to raise the road for Everglades Restoration benefits. Drivers may experience up to 15-minute delays and should watch for personnel, equipment and slow downs.

Lake Powell Recreational Water Advisory
Any time that you do recreational activities (swimming, water skiing, making sand castles, etc.) on the beaches or in the waters of Lake Powell you are strongly encouraged to follow basic hygiene practices. A number of conditions can cause potential water quality issues on Lake Powell, at Lees Ferry, and on Colorado River tributaries.
Cades Cove Loop Road is closed to motor vehicles every Wednesday
Cades Cove Loop Road is closed to motor vehicles every Wednesday through September 30. This allows pedestrians and cyclists to enjoy the cove without the presence of vehicles on the roadway.
Passenger Ferry Dock Closed; Visitors Deboard via Beach Landing
The ferry dock servicing the Cape Lookout Lighthouse area is closed for repairs. Visitors will deboard the ferry in front of the lighthouse. To reach the boardwalk, visitors will need to walk 5–10 minutes on soft sand. Depending on the tide, visitors may also need to walk through water.

From Memorial Day through Labor Day, the Birthplace will be open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The tour schedule remains the same.
Road Construction
Far View Sites and Cedar Tree Tower are closed for road improvements. Road work along the first four miles of the park road from the entrance station will begin in early summer. Delays of up to 30 minutes are possible - please check the park map before your visit. Wetherill Mesa Road has compacted gravel for 30 feet; motorcycles should take extra caution on this road.

Veterans Park in Leesburg, Virginia, is closed for park improvements. All trails in the park are closed into late summer 2026.
Major road construction on Hwy 199
Travelers using Highway 199 between Crescent City and Cave Junction should expect multiple traffic delays beginning as early as May due to ongoing Caltrans construction. Bag Policy
Bags larger than 9"x11"x5" are not permitted in the historic homes. The park does not have storage lockers for these items. Bags may not be left unattended and cannot be left with park staff. Anyone carrying a bag larger than 9"x11"x5" will not be admitted into the historic homes.

Bacteria Levels at Arizona Hot Springs
Fecal bacteria in water samples taken from Arizona Hot Springs frequently reach high levels, which can transmit human diseases. To reduce health risks, the National Park Service recommends recreators limit body contact in these waters, clean after use, and to never put your head under water at hot springs. Please contact the Park at 702-293-8990 for updates on this advisory.
Navigation
Please do not rely upon GPS digital navigation systems to find your way to Craters of the Moon. Please note that the Robert Limbert Visitor Center at 1266 Craters Loop Road is located just off U.S. Highway 20/26/93 and is not accessed via any unpaved roads.
2026 Tour Season

The Visitor Center is open 9am-5pm Wednesdays-Sundays. The historic homes are open Wednesdays-Sundays. Entrance fees required for entry into historic homes. Denali Park Road Information
In summer, the Denali Park Road is open to Mile 15 (Savage River) for personal vehicles. Vehicle travel further into the park is limited to transit and tour buses.
Stoplight In Use due to Limited Parking
Limited Parking at the Visitor Center is monitored by the use of a Stoplight. This light helps meter traffic so that parking spots are available for visitors. Stoplight generally in effect from 10 am to 4 pm. Wait times vary daily.
Sheep Hunting Closure
The Federal Subsistence Board closed sheep hunting to all users on Federal public lands within Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve and Glacier Mountain Controlled Use Areas Units in 20E and 25C due to significant declines to the sheep population. The authority was granted via WP26-76 on April 24, 2026 and the closure with extend through June 30, 2028.

Yaqui Ridge Trail Closure
Due to nearby construction and blasting, the 1-mile Yaqui Ridge Trail is closed starting April 13, 2026 until further notice to ensure visitor safety. The closure begins at the junction with Joe’s Canyon Trail, and access beyond this point is not permitted. This affects access to the southern terminus of the Arizona National Scenic Trail.
Janis-Ziegler House (Green Tree Tavern) Closed
The Janis-Ziegler House (Green Tree Tavern) building is currently closed, due to unsafe conditions. Other park buildings and grounds are open according to regular schedules. For program information, please check with park staff at the Ste. Genevieve Welcome Center, 573-880-7189.
Backcountry route open to vehicles May 15 - November 15
Valles Caldera's backcountry road system opens to vehicles on Friday, May 15, 2026. Forty vehicles passes will be issued per day through November 15, when the route closes for the 2026 season. Passes may be reserved up to 3 months in advance at Recreation.gov. Any remaining daily passes will be available on a first come, first served basis in the Volcano Discovery Center.
Lower Monument Canyon Trail Work - Expect Short Delays through August 2026
Monday-Thursday and some Fridays, 7 am to 4:30 pm, mid-May through August, expect trail maintenance on lower Monument Canyon Trail. Work will take place on the lower 2.5 miles of the trail, from the lower trailhead up to the Wedding Canyon intersection at Independence Monument. No closures are currently scheduled, though hikers might experience short delays while traveling through work sites.

Goldstrike Canyon, Arizona Hot Springs, Liberty Bell Arch, White Rock Canyon, and Lone Palm trails will be closed for visitor and first responder safety. Fort Spokane Museum and Visitor Center to Close for Repairs
The Fort Spokane Museum and Visitor Center in Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area is temporarily closed for the duration of the summer for critical historic preservation repairs. Dating to 1880, the landmark building originally served as the fort's guardhouse and now operates as the primary hub to introduce visitors to the park and its many resources.

Intermittent Road Closures During Utility Improvement Project
Beginning May 11, Stones River National Battlefield will implement intermittent road closures to support a utility improvement project by Middle Tennessee Electric. The park expects intermittent closures to continue for four months, depending on weather and construction conditions. Temporary closures and traffic impacts will occur in work areas along Thompson Lane and nearby sections of the battlefield. Visitors should expect intermittent disruptions and follow posted signs and staff directions.
Isaac Potts House (Washington's Headquarters) Closed For Restoration
The Isaac Potts House (Washington's Headquarters at Valley Forge) is temporarily closed for a restoration project. The Washington's Headquarters area, including the Valley Forge Train Station and exhibits, Commander-In-Chief's Guard Huts, and George Washington statue, remains open and accessible during regular operating hours. The Preserve is Open, but K-177 Highway Closed 12 Miles North
Beginning Monday, March 2, K-177 will close for a bridge replacement near Council Grove on K-177; local traffic only. Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is OPEN, but must be accessed from the south. K-177 thru traffic will be directed to follow the state detour on U.S. 56, U.S. 56/U.S. 77 and K-150. KDOT uses state highways for official detour routes for safety, weight and maintenance concerns. Saint-Gaudens NHP is cashless
Cash payments at Saint-Gaudens NHP are not accepted as a method of payment for entry passes. Credit and debit cards are accepted.
Reservations Only at Kyles Landing and Erbie - Starting September 1, 2026
Starting September 1, 2026, reservations will be required for all campsites at Kyles Landing and Erbie Campgrounds. Reservations must be made through Recreation.gov (www.recreation.gov) or by calling 877-444-6777. Reservations can be made the same day or up to six months in advance. Please note that cell phone service is unreliable in these areas, so it is strongly recommended to make your reservation before arriving at the campground.

Infrastructure Improvements to Old Rag Trailhead
Effective May 4, Shenandoah National Park will begin infrastructure enhancements at the Old Rag Trailhead main parking lot. We expect to complete work by November 2026. Until then, the main parking lot is closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Visitors can access Old Rag Trailhead via existing overflow parking lots. Day-use tickets are still required from March 1 through November 30 in addition to a park entrance fee.

Old Mine Road between Jager Road and Route 206 will close to all traffic beginning on April 6, 2026. Contractors will work to rehabilitate a 3.5-mile stretch of road. The construction area will be closed to all traffic for the safety of park visitors and contractors.

Kīlauea eruption
Volcanic eruptions can be hazardous. Stay out of closed areas and monitor air quality. Eruptions can last a few hours and are often separated by pauses lasting several weeks.
Nature Center and Planetarium Closure
The Nature Center and Planetarium building is closed until further notice due to continued remediation. Check the park's calendar for changes to ranger programs and locations.
Protect Yourself from Volcanic Tephra
Volcanic ash, rock and glassy strands (tephra) is present at Kīlauea summit and can irritate your skin, eyes and respiratory system. For your safety, do not handle it. Eye protection, long sleeves, long pants, a hat, closed-toe shoes and a dust mask are recommended.

The entire Ohanapecosh Campground area is CLOSED for the duration of the construction project, including all campsites, visitor center, restrooms, picnic area, & Ohanapecosh river access.
No dock access to Rainbow Bridge
At current lake levels, Rainbow Bridge docks do not reach the land. Dock-to-trail access to Rainbow Bridge will not be available until water levels rise again. Restrooms at the dock will remain open. This alert will stay up until the situation changes. Check the link for current lake information.
Hawk Creek Area Closed for 2026 Recreation Season
The Hawk Creek Campground and boat launch area will close to all public access starting April 16 through Oct. 6. The closure is necessary to keep visitors, staff, and construction crews safe during the Hawk Creek Road Improvements and Stabilization Project. It may be extended through Oct. 30, if needed. The project, managed by the Federal Highway Administration in partnership with Lincoln County and the National Park Service, will begin at the intersection of Hawk Creek Road and Miles Creston Road.
Operating Hours
The seashore is currently operating on the hours of 6:00 AM - 8:00 PM. Last entry into the seashore is at 7:00 pm.
Road Construction Near the Park
There is road construction near the park visitor center along 111th St. and S. Cottage Avenue. Please use caution and allow extra travel time when visiting. Construction is expected to last through the fall. In addition, on occasion the vehicle entrance for parking at 610 E. 111th street is limited to one lane.
Dogs Prohibited on Grand Parade Trails from April 1 to September 15
The Grand Parade Trails are closed to dogs from April 1 to September 15 to protect breeding birds nesting in the meadows. Nesting songbirds see dogs as predators, which can stress the birds and lead to less productive or even failed nests.

Starting May 1, Theodore Roosevelt National Park will accept only credit cards, debit cards, or digital payments for entrance fees, campground fees, and Interagency Passes. Cash and check payments will no longer be accepted.
Administrative Closure of Areas due to Nesting Shorebird Season
Effective 4/2/26: The closure includes the following areas within the boundary of the National Seashore : * North End * All island interior beach habitat along the northern section of Assateague Island National Seashore (north of Assateague State Park) is closed to all entry between KM 0.5 - KM 9.5. * The island interior beach habitats between KM 21.8 - 22.8 and 23.5 - 24.5 of the MD OSV Zone are closed to all entry. This includes habitat from the existing OSV boundary west to the vegetated shrub line.
Presidio Trust Trails Annual Coyote Pupping Season is April to October
To prevent dog-coyote conflicts, avoid seasonally closed sections of the Park Trail and the Bay Area Ridge Trail to dog walking. Explore open dog-friendly trails instead and remember to keep dogs on leash. Visit the Presidio Trust's website for more details.
Alava Trail Closure
The Mount Alava trail and Fatifati trail from the Fagasa pass to the summit is closed for trail improvement work until further notice. Visitors can hike to the Alava trail from the Old Vatia trail, it is a much steeper and more rugged climb. Other suggested hiking alternatives include Upper and Lower Sauma trails and the Tuafanua trail.

Traffic Delays - Gardner River High Bridge
Expect a single lane of traffic with up to 15-minute delays, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from April 1 through late October 2026. Oversized/overweight vehicles (8'6"+ wide, 75'+ long, 80,000 lbs+ gross vehicle weight) will not be able to cross the bridge during this time.

The Painted Desert Oasis gift shop, gas station and restaurant located at the north entrance of the park are open, and restrooms are available during construction. Visitor center operations are currently located at the Painted Desert Inn, two miles past the entrance station.

Illinois Memorial Closed for Restoration
The memorial itself closed for restoration starting on September 16, 2025. Starting on March 2, 2026, access to Tour Stops 2 and 3 will be temporarily closed. The closure point will be at the Shirley House. Visitors will still be able to continue north along Union Avenue and access the remainder of the Tour Road. This section will remain closed for the duration of the Illinois Memorial Restoration. The project is expected to be completed by September 2026.
Condition of Turkey Creek Trail
The South Turkey Creek Trail, located near the Harbor Bay Campground Area, is currently open for hiking for the first mile; however, the remainder of the trail is underwater and cannot be safely accessed.
Overlook Park Lot Unavailable After Dark
The park parking lot at 72 McBride Extension is open from dawn to dusk every day. Any vehicles left in the parking lot after dusk (i.e. sunset) are subject to towing at owner's expense.
Speed Limits are Much Lower Inside Park than Surrounding Highways
Speed limits for the park include 30 MPH near the park boundary and Great Sand Dunes Sign, and as low as 10 MPH near the Headquarters and Entrance Station. Speed limits are in place to protect park visitors, pedestrians, and wildlife in the park. Please drive carefully and responsibly.
Buildings located on the farm side are closed

RV and trailer precautions: be aware of vehicle restrictions before visit.
As the busy season ramps up, traffic will be denser and can result in delays and complications particularly for owners of longer vehicles. The Tucson Mountain District (west side) of the park can accommodate vehicles up to 40ft in total length on the loop drive and has RV parking available at the Visitor Center, and the Rincon Mountain District (east side) can accommodate vehicles up to 40ft in length on the loop drive but has no RV parking available at the Visitor Center.
Angels Landing Pilot Permit Program
Everyone who hikes Angels Landing needs to have a permit. Learn why you need a permit and how to get one. This requirement does not affect entering the park or riding the park shuttle (when it is running).
No Water at Hosmer Campground
As of September 30, 2025, water at Hosmer Campground in the Summit District is shutoff due to a waterline break. Water is available 24-hours at Headquarters Visitor Center one mile up the road. At this point we don't have an estimate for when repairs will be complete.

Vehicle Weight Limit at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens Entrance
Due to structural conditions at the driveway entrance, access to the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens main entrance and parking lot is limited to vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 16,000 pounds or less.
Replace Bocce Ball Court Retaining Wall
Project work begins on Monday, February 9 to replace the bocce ball 50-foot retaining wall in order to improve existing infrastructure and enhance visitor safety. Several parking spots on lower Van Ness will be fenced off and the bocce ball court will not be accessible for the duration of the project, slated through August 2026. Please be aware of machinery, work, and signs.

Life Jackets Required!
By Nebraska State law, all children 13 years old and younger must WEAR a USCG approved life jacket to float the Niobrara NSR. Anyone over 13 years old must HAVE a life jacket. If you are renting equipment, your outfitter will provide them.

Pet Policy
Pets are not allowed inside the visitor center at Aztec Ruins or on the trail through the Aztec West Great House. Pets are welcome in the parking lot, the picnic area, and along the Old Spanish Trail. Service animals are the only exception. Emotional support, therapy, and companion animals are not considered service animals and therefore not permitted in the visitor center or on the trail through Aztec West.
Museum to Remain Open During Construction
The Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum, Outdoor Symbolic Memorial, and Book Store will remain open during the construction of Foreward - a new Chapter of the museum. Visitors will enter through a new entrance on the southwest corner of the building. A temporary Visitor Experience Center has been placed near the museum for visitors to purchase tickets and browse Memorial merchandise. Staple Bend Tunnel Closure
Due to a rockfall, the interior of the Staple Bend Tunnel is closed. The trail is still open. From the Mineral Point Trailhead, visitors can bypass the tunnel, via a path around the right side of the tunnel structure.
Ride Share Services - pickup limited
Taxi and ride-share services are often not available in Pecos. Even if services like Uber and Lyft will bring you here, it can be very difficult to secure a ride out. Please ensure you have a departure plan in place before being dropped off at Pecos.

SR 165 Carbon River/Fairfax Bridge is closed: no access to Carbon River or Mowich Lake.
There is NO public access to Carbon River & Mowich Lake from SR 165. The bridge is closed to pedestrians, bicycles and vehicles and there is no alternate route.
Guided Tours at the Reconstructed Fort
Regularly scheduled guided tours provide access into furnished rooms and explore the fort’s role in Westward Expansion and the reconstruction of the fort in 1976.
NPS Visitor Wifi
Visitor wifi and wifi calling is now available in The Kelso Depot parking lot for calls including emergencies. Go to the bulletin board at the Kelso Depot restrooms for instructions.
Capacity Restrictions at the Reconstructed Fort
The design of the reconstructed fort fails to meet accessibility, fire, and life-safety requirements of 1976. A lack of code compliant components such as emergency lighting, illuminated exit signage, panic hardware on doors, and outwardly swinging exit doors results in a limitation of 49 occupants for visitor operations within the reconstructed fort.
Plaza Access to Reconstructed Fort
Entry into the reconstructed fort is limited to the central plaza on scheduled days. For your safety respect all closures and restrictions. Guided tours provide access into additional areas.
A Short Walk is Required to Reach the Fort
A 1/4 mile (1,275 feet) walk on a paved trail from the parking area is required to reach the gate of the fort. At the end of your visit, you'll return to your vehicle along the same path.
8 Miles of Unpaved Road to Reach Park
In order to reach the Sand Creek Massacre Site, visitors must travel on at least 8 miles of unpaved roads. We are not able to guarantee road conditions of county roads 54 or W after spring storms.
Visitor Services Available Only at the Site
All visitor Services are available at the Historic Site, 23 miles northeast of Eads, Colorado. The Center for Sand Creek Massacre Studies located in Eads, Colorado is available for appointment only research requests.
Parking at Boundary Access Areas
Visitors are reminded to park in designated parking areas when accessing the park via boundary trailheads. Parking in unauthorized locations may result in your vehicle being towed at the owner's expense. Park on the right side of the road approaching Thompson Hollow. Parking is authorized up to the "No Parking" sign before a private driveway.
Trail closure for pipeline restoration project
The VC09/South Valle Toledo/Posos Trail from the Valle Toledo parking area to the eastern park boundary is closed for restoration. The NPS is working on a trail reroute and will provide details as soon as possible.
Backcountry Trail Conditions
GPS is necessary on backcountry trails: Oakridge, Boggy Gut (formerly River), and Kingsnake. These trails may be difficult to follow.
Fire Restrictions
Fire restrictions have been lifted at Carlsbad Caverns which means that fires such as charcoal fires in grills and the use of camp stoves or portable grills will be allowed. Igniting and maintaining an open fire must be done with materials that are commonly used for warmth and food preparations such as natural firewood or charcoal briquettes. Other materials such as flammable liquids, garbage, plastic, aerosol canisters, or other artificial substances are not permitted.
Volcano Top Access Closed to Vehicles over 26 feet long and to all Trailers
The Volcano top access is closed to all RVs, buses, attached pull trailers, or any other vehicle over 26 feet in length due to public safety concerns and limited parking. Trailer drop-off and RV/bus parking are available at the visitor center.

Beginning on Monday, November 17, 2025, expect intermittent traffic impacts at GWMP. This Bridge and pavement preservation work is expected to extend into the Fall of 2026 and will make repairs to 24 GWMP bridges and over 30 paved roads and parking assets. To minimize traffic impacts, weekday lane closures on George Washington Memorial Parkway, Clara Barton Parkway, and Spout Run Parkway will NOT be allowed inbound to DC from 5:30am to 9:30am and outbound from DC from 2:30pm to 7:30pm Monday through Friday.

Louisiana Circle is closed to vehicles and pedestrians due to slope instability. Navy Circle is open and also provides views of the Mississippi River.
National Cemetery Closed to Vehicles; Open to Pedestrians

Big South Fork Announces Temporary Closure of Blue Heron Tipple Bridge
Big South Fork NRRA has announced the temporary closure of the historic Blue Heron Tipple Bridge, effective immediately in the interest of visitor safety. A recent bridge safety inspection conducted by the Federal Highway Administration identified structural issues specific to the pier’s bridge decking which is now leaning beyond acceptable standards.
George Rogers Clark NHP in the Eastern Time Zone
George Rogers Clark National Historical Park is located in the Eastern Time Zone. The memorial closes 15 minutes before the visitor center.
Water Availability
There is NO water at the scorpion campgrounds and the trailhead for the cliff dwellings. Water is available at the Visitor Center, Woody's corral and TJ's corral.
Limited Restroom Availability
Restrooms are available at the Independence Visitor Center at 6th & Market Streets, the corner of 5th and Chestnut Streets, and the Benjamin Franklin Museum (museum entrance requires a fee) in Franklin Court.

Fires are permitted only in designated areas and under specific conditions. A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.

No Pets are allowed on the Cliff Dwelling Trail

Road Closure and Fishing Pier Impact
The Engineer Wharf, one of two fishing piers at Fort Monroe is temporarily closed. The Finger Pier remains open. Also closed is the section of Fenwick Road between Ingalls and the East Gate of the fort. Detour signs will aid travelers around the closure.
Canyon from Toe of Exit Glacier to the Outwash Plain
The canyon from the toe of Exit Glacier to where Exit Creek opens into the Outwash Plain is susceptible to sudden outburst flood events. These events produce sudden surges of water, ice and rock. For your safety please stick to designated park trails.

The section of the River Trail beneath Interstate 16 is closed during bridge construction when pedestrian safety is at risk and remains open when no significant hazards are present.

The Diablo East Marina Cove, Scuba Cove, and walkway access are closed because of the presence of excessive docking material, unsafe walkway and dock, and unstable, loose ground. The area will reopen once these hazards have been corrected.

Melrose Mansion Guided Tours
Reservations for guided tours of the mansion must be made on Recreation.gov. The tour is $11.00 and are at 10, 11, 2, 3, and 4; masks are optional. The estate is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The grounds and outbuildings are free.
Preservation Work Along Trails
Starting March 18, preservationists restoring the bronze state plaques along the entrance road, and the War of 1812 commemorative markers in the Orpheus Grove. Some of these areas may be temporarily closed while work is in progress.
Glover Archbold Trail detour
For visitor safety, the southern end of the Glover Archbold Trail is under an emergency closure until further notice due to aerial hazards. Please follow the posted detour along Foxhall Rd. / 44th St. NW / P St. NW.

Hazardous Conditions on Trails
Visitors should exercise caution when hiking areas of the park that have opened since Hurricane Helene. Hazards on trails and in forested areas such as hanging tree limbs, debris on the ground, and washed-out sections of trails and bridges are possible.

Feral Dogs May Be Seen in Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument

Migrant Notice
Like elsewhere in the Florida Keys, we have seen an increase in Cuban migrants arriving by boat from Cuba and landing on the islands of Dry Tortugas National Park. You may observe migrant landings at the park and visitor areas may be impacted.

Black Bears Frequenting the McAfee Knob Area in Virginia
Human-habituated bears have been frequently spotted in the McAfee Knob Area. Allowing bears access to human food or garbage causes it to lose its fear of humans. Follow all food storage regulations, use provided food lockers and never feed a bear.
Partial Closure of Rocky Springs Trail
The Rocky Springs section is closed from the Rocky Springs campground at milepost 55 to the northern terminus at milepost 59 until further notice. Visitors should observe posted closures. The trail is unsafe due to trail erosion and deteriorated bridges.

Centennial Trailhead Parking

Sick Birds and Wildlife, H5N1
Be cautious around sea lions, and dead or sick birds. If you get “bombed” by a bird, wash with soap and water immediately, monitor for signs of illness, and call your doctor. Report beached, sick or distressed wildlife to Wildlife Mortality Reporting.
Bear Alert
Black bears inhabit many of the Apostle Islands. Follow safety guidelines: store food and scented items properly, hike in groups, stay attentive, and make noises if you encounter a bear in a visitor area.
Private Inholdings: Sand & Rocky Islands
There are privately occupied residences and docks on the southeast corner of Sand Island, as well as just north of Group Site A on Rocky Island. These areas are closed to the public. Please respect their privacy and do not trespass in these locations.

Items Worn or Used in Other Caves Not Allowed
A disease known as White-Nose Syndrome is killing bats in North America. To prevent it from spreading to our bats, do not wear shoes, clothing, or bring any gear into any cave at Carlsbad Caverns National Park that were in another cave.
Timed Entry Ticket Required to Enter Carlsbad Cavern
Reservations are highly recommended and can be purchased by clicking "more" or calling 877-444-6777. Reservations only select the entry time. Upon arrival at the visitor center, an entrance pass must be purchased.
Hiking in Gold Mine Tract
Visitors are restricted to the designated trails within the Gold Mine Tract in the Great Falls area. This location is generally defined as that area bordered by MacArthur Boulevard and Berma Road and depicted on the Great Falls Maryland Hiking Map.

Martinez Adobe
The Martinez Adobe, located on the western edge of John Muir’s historic orchard, is currently closed due to structural damage. It is unknown when the public will be able to enter the structure. The Muir/Strentzel mansion remains open to visitors.
Texas White House Complex Closure
On January 2, 2024 the Texas White House Complex closed so the construction phase of the Texas White House rehabilitation can begin. The LBJ Ranch driving tour remains open. Visitors can still see the school, cemetery, birthplace and showbarn.

Arizona Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Requirements for Residents and Non-residents.
Off-highway vehicles (OHVs) are required by law to display a valid OHV decal to operate on public and state trust lands in Arizona. This includes “street legal” vehicles that meet these two requirements.

Lower Crypt Access Subject to Safe Conditions
Access to the lower crypt area of the Mausoleum is subject to closure during wet and or low light conditions in the late afternoon. The main floor and the two reliquary rooms remain open during these conditions.
Route 7 from Sawmill, AZ is NOT recommended
Entering the park from the east at Sawmill, AZ on Route 7 is not recommended. Part of this route is UNPAVED and UNMAINTAINED. Please stay on paved roads, such as Indian Route 64 from Tsaile, AZ and Highway 191/Route 7 from Chinle, AZ.
Uber, Lyft, and Other "Taxi" Services
Bandelier is in a remote location, with cell service in the canyon limited to Verizon 4G only. Services like Uber and Lyft will bring you here, but there may be no way to contact a ride out. Please plan your pickup before being dropped off at Bandelier.
The Use of GPS is NOT Recommended
Numerous visitors have been routed to remote trailheads and out-of-the-way roads trying to use GPS to reach the main park area or shuttle stop.
Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park is Cashless
Tours may be purchased online (recreation.gov) or in person with a credit or debit card only. Cash transactions are not available at the park.
CCC Camp Picnic Pavilions Closed
The pavilions in the CCC Camp Picnic Area are closed for the immediate future for restoration work.
Planning Ahead for Transportation
If being dropped off at the park, please ensure you will have a return ride. Taxis and rideshares do not often come out to Congaree, and the bus may be unavailable. Please plan ahead.
Ride Share Services
Convoy Point grounds, Jetty Trail, kayak launch, and picnic area open at 7 a.m. and close at 5:30 p.m. If you are using a ride share service for transportation to and from the park, ensure ride share services can be onsite before closing time.
Pozo Nuevo Road to Bates Well Ranch High Clearance, 4-Wheel Drive Only
High Clearance, 4-wheel drive is required from where Pozo Nuevo Road begins along South Puerto Blanch Drive to Bates Well Ranch area. The road is washed out in areas. Bates Well Ranch is still accessible from the north on Darby Well Road.
Be aware of changing beach conditions
Beach conditions are changing frequently. Check current tide charts and weather forecasts before traveling on the beach.
Jefferson Memorial elevator
The elevator from the ground level to the chamber of the Jefferson Memorial may be intermittently out of order. Visitors can take steps, but if you require an elevator for a successful visit, please call this number for current status: 202-426-6841.
Vehicle Break-in and Theft Warning
Car break-ins in Cuyahoga Valley have tripled since 2022, resulting in theft of personal items like credit cards. Do not leave valuables in your car. As a last resort, lock items in your trunk before arriving. Thieves target parking lots regularly.
Spring Creek (Queens) Closed to the Public
Spring Creek is closed to the public at this time. The NPS is conducting field investigations as part of a Remedial Investigation at the site. Spring Creek is located in Queens, NYC.

Navigation Warning
Some navigation systems on devices misdirect visitors driving to Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield. Please note that the entrance to the park is at the visitor center located near the Southeast intersection of Hwy ZZ and FR 182.

Drive Cautiously - Endangered Birds on Roadway
Nēnē (Hawaiian geese) and ʻuaʻu (Hawaiian petrel) are nesting in the park and may land on or frequent park roads, parking lots, and road leading up to the park. Drivers are reminded to drive at the posted speed limits and exercise caution.

Cell phone voice and data coverage is very limited in the park and surrounding area.

Rideshare services should be used with caution if visiting the Tucson Mountain District
Rideshare services will drop visitors off at the park, but usually will not pick them back up. To avoid being stranded in the park, coordinate two-way trips before using rideshares to visit the West side. No major trails start at the visitor center.
Wildlife Viewing Guidelines
San Juan Island National Historical Park provides habitat for many species of animals. When you visit the park, you are visiting their home. Do not approach any wildlife within 75 ft/23 m (two school bus lengths).

Kalawao County Restrictions
Access to the park, including Kalawao County, the Kalaupapa Trail, the settlement, and Waikolu Valley, is restricted to residents and visitors with approved permits issued by Hawaii State Department of Health. Violations will result in arrest/fine.
Health and Safety
Masks are not required but are strongly recommended for all Museum visitors. Children under the age of 5 are not permitted on in-person building tours, but are welcome to attend a neighborhood walking tour or visit us virtually.
Mount Tamalpais State Park - Trail Conditions

The Steeple Building Closed
The Steeple Building remains closed until further notice.
County Line Road Closed Monday To Friday
County Line Road is closed during the week, from Monday through Friday. The closure will apply to all vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic. Please find an alternate route.

Passaic River Trail Bridge washed out
Tropical Storm Ida washed out the Passaic River bridge on the Patriot's Path Trail south of Tempe Wick Road. This area is a known habitat of the endangered wood turtle, so do not wade, walk, or let your dog run in the river at this location.
Diablo Lake Boat Launch Inaccessible to Powerboats
Due to silt accumulation, the Diablo Lake boat launch at Colonial Creek South Campground is not usable for launching most powerboats. Expect shallow or no water at the launch ramp and the possibility of needing to carry your boat to or from the water.
SEASONAL SAFETY MESSAGE
Be careful and safe while out in the canyon! Be cautious of your surroundings, don't cliff jump, don't stray off of the main trails, and don't get too close to Little River Falls or the canyon rim. These activities could result in injury or death.

Fort Davis National Historic Site is located in the Central Time Zone. The park is open 8:00 am until 5:00 pm (Central Time). The Visitor Center closes at 4:30pm. The Main Gate locks at 5:00pm.

Wind Cave moves to cashless fee collection
Payments for cave tours, campground fees, as well as Interagency Passes at Wind Cave National Park, will be by credit/ debit cards or digital payments only. Cash and check payments will no longer be accepted.
Be Aware of Illegal Traffic
Smuggling and/or illegal entry is common in this area due to the proximity of the international border. Please be aware of your surroundings at all times and do not travel alone in remote areas.

Devil's Hall is a Strenuous Hike
The hike to Devil's Hall is rated as strenuous. The portion of the route in the wash requires rock scrambling and is dangerous when wet or if water is present. The wash surface is loose gravel and rocks and may be unstable.
Oakland Main House Self-Guided Tours
The interior of the Oakland Main House is ONLY open to the public on weekends from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All tours of the house are self-guided and occupancy within the building is limited. Please plan accordingly.

Boater Awareness
Please use caution in park waters due to navigational markers that may be missing or moved due to unforeseen circumstances.
Appropriate Footwear Required for Cave Tours
Visitors are required to wear completely enclosed shoes if participating in a cave tour, like tennis shoes, sneakers or hiking boots. Any type of sandals or shoes with any openings are NOT acceptable.
Bringing a Pet to Big Bend?
Bringing your pet to Big Bend National Park will limit some of your park explorations and opportunities. Pets are not allowed on park trails, in the backcountry, or on the river. Pets are allowed only where vehicles can go. Pets may not be left unattended
Operating Hours & Seasons
The park is normally open year-round during daylight hours. Some park facilities are closed during the winter.
Dangerous Highway Crossing
Highway 177 is 60 mph with a blind spot directly across from the house. Safely use the highway underpass to the Fox Creek Trail just south of the visitor center parking lot. Be smart, stay alive.
No Dogs on Beach
Dogs and pets are not allowed on any of the beaches in Gulf Islands National Seashore. Visit the pet rules page for information.
Face masks are now optional
As Covid-related numbers have dipped below the CDC determined High Rate of Transmission in Adams County, Mississippi, face masks are no longer required in all NPS buildings at Natchez National Historical Park. Wearing of face masks is optional.

Fort Pulaski Entrance Fees are Credit/Debit Only
The park is no longer accepting cash for entrance fees. Credit and debit cards are the only method of payment currently being accepted.
Tickets are required to enter Mammoth Cave
Reservations are strongly recommended. Reservations are the only way to ensure a spot is available for your party. Please plan accordingly by visiting Recreation.gov to secure your tickets in advance. Availability of walk-up tickets is not guaranteed.
Park in Progress
Coltsville NHP is working toward establishment and is not yet an official park. We do not have a Visitor Center and visitor services are limited. For more information please visit our Park Development and Calendar pages.
No Fuel Services
Fuel up before visiting! Agate Fossil Beds National Monument is 30-50 miles from the nearest service stations.

Possession or use of marijuana inside Fire Island National Seashore is prohibited.
While New York provides for regulated possession and use of marijuana, it remains an illegal drug under federal law and enforced within National Park units.

Navigation
Do not rely on GPS digital navigation systems to find your way to Badlands National Park. Please note that the Visitor Center at 25216 Ben Reifel Road, Interior SD 57750 is located just off I-90.
What To Know Before You Visit
Park grounds and visitor center are open, but you're encouraged to call the visitor center at 318-926-5492 for the latest information and COVID-19 precautions before you visit.
Motorized Recreational Scooters Not Permitted in Park
For the safety and protection of visitors and park resources, motorized scooters are not permitted within the park. Any vehicles (scooters, bicycles, etc.) that are part of a ride-share program may not be left behind for pick up inside the park
Be Prepared for your Visit
Before hiking at Moores Creek, make sure to bring all your necessary medications, sunscreen, bottled water for hikes, loose fitting clothes for hiking, and any other items you may need.
Bicycle Use In The Monument
Bicycles are ONLY allowed at the following locations: 1 - On the Boca Negra Canyon paved multiuse path; bicycles must remain on the paved bike path. 2 - On the crusher fine trail that winds in and out of the park around the mesa top above Boca Negra.
Yockanookany Trail Section Closed to Equestrians
The Yockanookany section of the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail is closed to equestrian use effective immediately, due to safety concerns with trail bridges and boardwalks. The trail will remain open to pedestrians.
Notice to travelers to National Cemetery
Due to the narrow roadway & tight turn, RVs, mobile homes, charter buses, delivery trucks, or vehicles with trailers are prohibited from the crest of Monument Hill. Check for information about parking at the Visitor Center upon your arrival.
RV and Tractor Trailer Parking at the Visitor Center
There is limited space for parking for recreational vehicles and trailers in the parking lot directly in front (south) of the visitor center. RVs are asked to not park in the lot behind the visitor center. There is no parking space for tractor trailers.
GPS Navigation Systems
GPS navigation systems often misdirect visitors driving to Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site. GPS systems often route visitors to our back gate, or to the entrance for Grant's Farm (not affiliated with the NPS). Please visit our directions page.
Footwear in the Cavern
For safety, closed-toe shoes with good traction are recommended. Flip flops, sandals, and some walking shoes have little or no traction and increase the possibility of slips, trips, and falls. Watch your step and use the handrails when necessary.
Please park legally and responsibly in Zion National Park and the Town of Springdale
Zion has limited parking space. Park only in designated stalls. Vehicles parked outside of designated stalls are subject to citation and may be towed. Once all designated parking stalls in Zion are full, visitors should park in Springdale.
Santa Barbara Island Dock Closed; Landings Restricted to Adjacent Rocky Ledge
Santa Barbara Island is open to public access, but landings are restricted to the rocky ledge adjacent to the dock. The dock is closed and is not expected to be repaired in the near future due to the severe winter storm damage.
Arrival by Boat
It is prohibited to come within 1/4 mile of the Kalaupapa shoreline. Access by boat within the quarter mile offshore park boundary requires a special use permit.
Garden Key Harbor Light
Vessel operators - the Garden Key Harbor Light is undergoing repairs and is extinguished. At this time it is unknown when the light will again be illuminated.
Warning about GPS Systems!
Vehicle Navigation Systems and GPS units may provide inaccurate information—sending drivers the wrong way on one-way roads, leading them to dead ends in remote areas, or sending them on roads which are impassable. Use the Interstate exits for wayfinding.
White-Nose Syndrome / Cave Permit
Please Do Not bring clothing or caving gear used in caves or mines outside of Lava Beds into our caves. This will help slow the spread of white-nose syndrome, a bat disease that is killing bats outside of the park.
Firewood ban is in effect for the park.
Firewood ban is in effect for the park. Only firewood from the surrounding counties of Scott, Morgan, Pickett, and Fentress, in Tennessee, and McCreary in Kentucky, can be brought into the park. Firewood is for sale or you may use dead and down wood.
Black Bears at Big South Fork
Black bears call Big South Fork NRRA home. Help keep them healthy and safe by storing all food, cooking items, feed, cosmetics and coolers properly stored when at campgrounds or in the backcountry.
Unmanned Aircraft
Launching, landing, or operating an unmanned aircraft from or on lands and waters administered by the National Park Service within the boundaries of Kalaupapa National Historical Park is prohibited. This includes model airplanes, quadcopters, and drones.
Be Aware of Break-ins along State Route 20
Prevent smashed windows and theft. Break-ins are not uncommon at trailheads along State Route 20. Remove your valuables and electronics and take associated electronic cords.
